Testimony

I really want to remember this.

Today something very momentous happened.  At least it was for me.

Our ward choir doesn't have a pianist.  I've been asked to play quite a lot because I'm good friends with the choir director's wife.  However, for the Christmas practices, I had not been to a single one due to craziness of the holidays and sick, sick kids.

The Monday before the performance I received a text from the choir director telling me that the current Christmas Program pianist was not going to be able to play and was begging for my assistance.  I replied in the affirmative and he sent his wife over that night to give me the sheet music.

Honestly, practicing the piano is not my favorite thing to do with kids.  When I sit down at the piano, Maycee and Cooper immediately cling themselves to me.  Maycee sits next to me on the bench and plays, while Cooper crawls on my lap and plays.  It happens every time.

The sheet music was really difficult for me.  There were three key changes.  One of them was to four sharps, another change was to three sharps.  With a lot of chords.  Chords and I are not exactly the best of friends.

I arrived at the practice on Saturday at 11am.  It was a train wreck.  I played horribly and the choir didn't know the piece very well.

To say I was nervous was a grand understatement.  Normally playing the piano for people doesn't bother me, but this was beyond my capability to perform with such little practice.  When I came home from the practice I was near hyperventilation.  I knew I couldn't do it.  One of the singers, who is very musically versed, had changed the piano piece to go from the most difficult part of the song to the familiar hymn.  I still couldn't play it.

Sunday morning came and so did the day of the choir's performance.  I was a wreck.  I was trying to practice just before church and I couldn't even play the easy parts of the song because I was so nervous.  My fingers wouldn't move to where my brain was trying to command them.

Just hours before the performance, Stephen asked if I would like a priesthood blessing.  At first I was going to tell him no because I didn't want to misuse such a sacred power, but then I said yes.  I realized that this was something that was appropriate.  Heavenly Father knew my great desire to play well and I knew that He loved me enough to want to bless me.

Stephen gave me a blessing of comfort and of peace.  He blessed me that my fingers would work.

We went to the church at 1:00pm for practice just a few minutes before church started at 1:30.  At practice I fell apart.  Tears were streaming down my face as my fingers were fumbling over the keys.  I was a nervous wreck.

I sat down on our bench after practice and Sacrament Meeting began.

The time for the choir to perform had come.

I felt calm.

I walked up to the piano and played the piece with no fumbling fingers and no major flaws.

I know that my Heavenly Father loves me.

I know He is aware of me and will be there to help and support me.

BUT I need to ask.

I am so grateful to a husband who helped me to recognize this.

Two Things

So.  Last night we got a babysitter to finish Christmas shopping for the kiddos.  We left at 6pm and asked the babysitter to put the kids to bed at 7:30.  I told her that if they were a huge handful to just not worry about the bed thing.

Stephen and I walked in the door at 9:00 and it was completely quiet and not a kid was in sight.

Honestly, I was shocked.

A lot of times it takes a good hour and a half of "turn off the light" or "go back to bed" or "stop banging on the door" before Maycee and Cooper will finally submit to their exhaustion.

I totally paid her more than I was going to pay her originally.

I love good babysitters.

Thing Two.

As per my previous post, the bunk beds have now been dismantled.  The teeny, tiny bedroom looks even teenier, and tinier.  There is no more floor space.  Literally.  Which means all toys are now brought to my living room.  The place that I can't seem to keep clean for the life of me.  Now it is doubly awful.

Awesome.

My Little Monkey

Cooper climbs on everything.  Seriously everything.

The other day, while doing the bedtime routine, I was laying on the top bunk bed next to Maycee.  We were singing songs.  I turned to the side and saw Cooper standing next to me on the top step of the ladder.

I.

Flipped.

Out.

The next day I caught Cooper jumping on the top bunk.

This monkey is going to crack his head open, break his arm, break his leg, or kill himself.  I don't know how to stop this kid.

On another note, I love Christmas with kids. Last Friday was our Ward Christmas Party.  The program was really sweet.  Maycee didn't pay attention until Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus came onto the stage.  Maycee immediately wanted to go up and see the baby Jesus.  She asked every 30 seconds to go see Mary or the baby Jesus.

As soon as the program was over we went in search of the baby Jesus and Mary.  We found the baby Jesus laying in a crib in the wings of the stage.  It was a baby doll.  I explained that to Maycee as we were walking up to the stage.  I picked up the doll and handed it to Maycee.  She carefully held the baby and then kissed it on the head.  It was so sweet!

Last night we watched The Polar Express.  When we got to the scene with the huge lite up Christmas tree, Maycee asked, "Is that for baby Jesus?"

I paused for a minute and said, "Yes!  It's to celebrate Jesus' birthday!!"

I love that Maycee knows why we have Christmas.

Oliver's Two Month Checkup

...At almost three months.  Things have been a little chaotic.

Anyway, I have decided that no one knows how to correctly measure a baby.  Long story, but here are Oliver's stats according to the nurse that was working today!

Stats:
13 lbs - 50th Percentile
23 in - 20th Percentile

Broken

This afternoon I was holding Oliver up to a mirror to get him to interact with himself.  It's very cute when he does.  While trying to get his reactions, Maycee drug a chair over next to us and climbed up.

Maycee: Mom, Oliver is a boring baby.  We should get a new one.

Me: Oh he is, huh?

Maycee: Yeah, He's broken.  We should get a new baby....and a new Mommy.

Me: Well, what kind should we get?

Maycee: Hhmmmm.  An orange one!

Preschool Christmas Party

Carley, one of the other moms in the preschool co-op pulled together an awesome party for the kiddos.  The kids put together a reindeer treat!  It was really cute!

Hannah, Sarah Zwygart, & Tyson putting together their reindeer food.

I couldn't get Maycee to look at me!  There was way too much going on.  Here she is with her reindeer food.

Reading our Christmas letter from Santa!

All of the kids got each other a gift.  Maycee is super excited about her new crown!  It is almost indestructible.  Yeah for Christmas!

Good Days

It's a good thing that when having kids there are good days.  They make everything, not only bearable, but great!

We walked Maycee to preschool this morning.  Cooper looks like the little boy on a Christmas story.  Isn't he cute!

This afternoon Maycee helped me to clean my bathroom.  She did such an awesome job!  She scrubbed my bathtub.  I love that little girl.  I love that she wants to do things with me.  Thank you little Maycee girl!

Smiles

Oliver is really getting to be a smiley baby.  So cute.  I love it when he smiles!

Sleeping cutie!!

It still amazes me that babies can basically sleep through anything.

In this picture perfect moment, Maycee and Cooper are running around Oliver screaming at the top of their lungs.  And here he sleeps peacefully.

Christmas is underway

This year we wanted Maycee and Cooper to get each other presents.  Maycee is the only one that will understand, so she was involved with picking out Cooper's present.

Me: What do you think Cooper would want for Christmas?

Maycee: He wants a pony.  Yeah, I think Cooper wants a pony...no I want a pony for Christmas.  I should get a pony for Christmas.

Me: I know that you want a pony for Christmas, but what would Cooper want?

(pause for thought)

Maycee: We should get Cooper a car.

Me: Maycee that is awesome!  I think Cooper would love a car.  What kid of car should we get him?

Maycee: Lightning McQueen.  We should get him Lightning  McQueen.

So, Maycee and I went shopping for a Lightning McQueen car.  We ended up finding the perfect car.  It was a two pack, one Lightning McQueen for Cooper, and one Sally so Maycee can play with him.  So excited!  Maycee did so well!

Anyway, last night Maycee helped me to wrap the present to put under the tree.  By help, I mean that she put the tape where I told her to put it.  She was pretty stoked about that.

That night Stephen also made his famous cookies.  Cooper loves them.

On Cooper's present I drew Cooper's name with dotted lines, so that Maycee could trace them.  She is doing so well!

Very excited for Christmas!!!!!
