The high school in our area is doing a production of Beauty and the Beast. As an advertisement, they put on a tea party, with Belle and the castle objects, as hosts. I told Maycee that she could dress up and she said that she wanted to go as Tinkerbell. I was very surprised that she didn't say a princess, but I was all on board. The quicker we get out of this princess stage, the better!
She went to her closet and pulled out her green dress, requested wings, and then raided my bathroom to find cotton balls that she could put on her shoes. It was the cutest thing watching her rummage around to find her costume.
The fact that Belle was one of Maycee's beloved babysitters made us definite attenders.
Taking Maycee to this party was the funniest thing. The older she gets, the more shy she seems to be around people she doesn't know. When we arrived at the high school, a high school boy, that was helping at the tea party, asked her for her name. Maycee buried her face in my dress. I told the young man name and for the rest of the event everyone addressed her as Princess Maycee. She tried to hide behind me whenever anyone would speak to her. She avoided all eye contact and wouldn't say a word.
Wow.
That is not the Maycee I know.
Apparently she is more like me, as a child, then I realized.
We still had fun. And she got to see her babysitter, Jessie. And dress up as Tinkerbell.
